This presentation assignment explores the reasons behind the purpose and the organization of the DHS.

Step 1

Research the DHS.

Using your textbook and the Internet as resources, perform research about the DHS. During your research, find the answers to the following:

• What is the mission of the DHS?
• How does the DHS relate and interface with the three branches of government?
• What agencies make up the DHS?
• What are the directorates and their responsibilities?
• How large is the DHS?
• Who does the DHS report to?

Step 2

Create a slide presentation.

Using presentation software, develop five- to six-slide presentation summarizing the results of your research. Include any other interesting details you find regarding the DHS organization. Where appropriate, try to use graphics or visual aids to illustrate relations and organization structures.

Step 3

Add presentation notes.

Once you have developed your slides, add presentation notes (what you would actually say when presenting the slides) that add value and do not repeat what is written on the slide. Remember, there is nothing as boring as a presenter reading exactly what is on their slides!
