Observation
In-home therapy, Friday, January 31, 2020
This observation was conducted from 10am – 2pm on January 31, 2020, during in-home therapy.

10:00-10:30am – Aanvi and I begin to brush her teeth with my assistance: and eat breakfast at her table independently. -compliant

10:30-11:15am – Aanvi begins floor time, slightly non-compliant; screaming and flopping. Directed to the floor area. engaged in interverbal nursery rhythms to gain compliance. Matching cards, pointing to objects, colours. Use favourite musical toy as a reinforcer.

11:18am – Aanvi was directed to her table area where she began arts and craft. Cutting on the line, tracing and glueing shapes.

11: 30 am- She began to a tantrum as table time has just started two days prior, having trouble generalizing.

11:40 – client calm down, gained compliance by ignoring, Continued arts and crafts, reward throughout task completion with her favourite snack.

12:10pm – trampoline jump, fun play, as it helps with her toe walking; keeping flat feet.

12:30pm – education fun, shape matching and puzzles on iPad and phone.

12:50 – began naming objects on flashcards, and physical objects vocally. (Interverbal)

1:10pm – Client became non-compliant, - Attention. break. Aanvi and I took a walk to the apartment park for a little fresh air. During park time, the client follows instructions such as come here, slide and stop.

1:45 returned home, she settled for lunch as I entered my data.

2:00pm – data entry was complete, clocked out. (told Aanvis bye, she waved and said it back. -that took a while to teach her, so excited she learned it- I then asked her “closed the door behind me, please.” And she did! Yay

Background information
Aanvi is a 3-year-old girl who enjoys musical toys, walks to the park, and Lego blocks. Aanvi does not like huge crowds, loud noise, or art activities. She has become verbal after my first 6 months of interventions. Aanvi is a fast learning when she focused on the task at hand. She struggles with eye contact and has a short attention span, which blocks her concentration. Anavi is minimally verbal but has improved. She recently learned how to catch and throw a ball as well six new colors. Aanvi has a medical diagnoses of Autism spectrum disorder and can be aggressive.

Target behaviour
Aanvi’s aggression can be extremely severe. She has a verbal outbursts and hits herself when given a task. Her verbal outburst and aggression included screaming, tantrums, kicking, and biting when trying to escape from given activities.
After a year of intervention, her aggression has declined. By using positive reinforcement, consistency, and figuring out the motivation behind the tantrums and aggressive behaviour, her disruptive behaviour has decreased. Not being able to verbally communicate her needs was one important reason she was engaging in these particular behaviours. After being introduced to sign language, she was able to translate her needs into spoken words. This has defused some of her aggression.

Environment
Aanvis and I work in an in-home based environment. Services that are given in the home condition permit abilities to be focused on the environment in which they are most likely to occur.
